Honiara, Friday 5 September 2025 – Prime Minister Hon. Jeremiah Manele has highlighted the symbolic journey of the Uto ni Yalo from Fiji and Solomon Islands’ Tepuke canoe as a representation of Pacific unity and cultural pride.
At Wednesday’s press conference, the Prime Minister noted that the two vakas met in Lata and are now sailing together to Honiara as part of the Wansolwara Voyage: One Ocean, One Voice.
“Their voyage is a powerful symbol of Pacific unity, cultural pride, and stewardship of our shared ocean. It connects directly to the spirit of our PIFLM 54 Logo, which features a Tepuke canoe at its heart,” the Prime Minister said.
He added: “Just as the logo portrays leaders navigating with unity and purpose, so too do these voyagers embody the teamwork, resilience, and guardianship that bind us together as a Blue Pacific Continent.”
The Prime Minister encouraged Solomon Islanders to keep the voyagers in their prayers for a safe arrival, where they will deliver their message to Forum leaders.
The two vakas are expected to arrive in Honiara over the weekend. A closed traditional welcome ceremony will be held on Monday at the SINU Marine Academy to honor the sea warriors.
The Wansolwara Voyage, meaning One Ocean, One Voice, is a collaborative maritime journey led by the Uto ni Yalo Trust in partnership with the Pasifiki Voyaging Alliance. It emphasizes the enduring connection between Pacific peoples and the ocean, highlights the importance of marine conservation, and advocates for climate action and sustainable practices. By honoring traditional navigation and cultural heritage, the voyage also serves as a reminder of the shared responsibility of Pacific nations to safeguard the region’s environment and resources.
